County Plans to Vote Next Week on No-Bid Land Sale Law
The proposed law drew letters from several county residents. In one letter to the Board of Supervisors, Geneseo resident Dan Teall said passing the law “would be a mistake.”
“The transparent and competitive process is necessary to get the best price and preserve public trust,” Teall wrote. “You can still waive it for individual projects like you did recently in Geneseo. The ability to sell any parcel at any time for any price to any buyer would make it possible for someone with the right connections to buy real estate before anyone else even realized it was up for sale. Every sale will be viewed by county residents with suspicion. People will look for ulterior motives even when everything is done above board. I understand that the procedure must feel burdensome and slow, but conducting transactions openly is critical to prevent abuse and to keep people from losing faith in the system.”
