While the core of the village has a cohesive sidewalk network, many other parts of the village lack alternatives to driving. Many village residents do not have a car, and many others would walk or bike if they felt safe. In December 2024, a village resident was hit and critically injured while crossing NY 20A to get to Community Bank. Dan was an EMT on this call, and it affected him deeply because the man struck was only trying to live his life in an environment that wasn't built for him.

Safer streets

The proposed law drew letters from several county residents. In one letter to the Board of Supervisors, Geneseo resident Dan Teall said passing the law “would be a mistake.”“The transparent and competitive process is necessary to get the best price and preserve public trust,” Teall wrote. “You can still waive it for individual projects like you did recently in Geneseo. The ability to sell any parcel at any time for any price to any buyer would make it possible for someone with the right connections to buy real estate before anyone else even realized it was up for sale. Every sale will be viewed by county residents with suspicion. People will look for ulterior motives even when everything is done above board. I understand that the procedure must feel burdensome and slow, but conducting transactions openly is critical to prevent abuse and to keep people from losing faith in the system.”

Dan's fire department experience will help him provide oversight, making sure that our money is spent responsibly and our services are as great as they can be.

It is critical that the local government operate in a way that is open and easy for residents to understand. As Trustee, Dan will strive to improve communication with the public. In addition to the minutes that are already put on the Village site, Dan would advocate for posting videos of meetings online. The Livingston County Board of Supervisors already has such a system in place.
